Door Gunner, Vietnam. 1967 by SP4 Michael Crook

Specialist Fourth Class Michael Crook served as an Army artist in Vietnam with Combat Art Team III from February-June 1967. While in-country, he painted this image of a door gunner on a UH-1D Huey helicopter of the 128th Assault Helicopter Company, 1st Aviation Brigade.

From its base at Phu Loi Base Camp in Bin Duong Province (about 20 miles north of Saigon) the 128th provided aviation support to American and South Vietnamese units all over the South Vietnam.

Never forget, Mark

  1. Terrific art work about the best of the best—our Army Aviation enlisted men and NCOs! Thank you. Sincerely, W. Larry Dandridge, Author of BLADES OF THUNDER (Book One)
